Do you secure the most important thing on your plane?

Without proper safety, aircraft pilots may theoretically recover from extreme head trauma during a crash. Some flight profiles are higher risk, such as off-airport activities, aerobic flights, aerial application flights, flights for public use, and helicopter flights. In a crash series, examples of passenger head and facial injury situations include influencing the cockpit dashboard, influencing the surfaces of the cockpit and cabin, unsecured things moving and affecting the head and face inside the plane, and debris hitting the head and face. Flight helmets can provide an additional head and facial protective safety layer when flying and can aid in hearing protection from loud noises. Flight helmets can provide an extra protective layer for the head and face defense when traveling, and can help protect against noisy sounds when flying.

When buying a flight helmet, make sure you pick a helmet designed for the specific aircraft you fly, such as an airplane fixed wing helmet or a helicopter rotary wing helmet. Each would be compliant with the avionics of each kind of aircraft. In addition, as you make your decision, you may want to carefully examine the safety criteria for which the flight helmet has been developed, manufactured, and tested.

Choose a flight helmet depending on the amount of safety available and the level of comfort, not the "good looking aspect." You may want to put it on to validate that the helmet is appropriately fitted to the head and that the front, back, sides, and rear of the head are sufficiently protected. If you wear headphones, make sure that when adjusting your flight mask, you wear them. Inspect the helmet for serviceability, before each flight. Make sure it is worn properly while wearing the helmet, it is fixed to the head, and all straps are fastened.

When undertaking flight operations, during an injury series, an extended flight helmet visor can shield the ears and can even shield the ears from a bird attack. Carrying a spare microphone in the cockpit is a smart idea, just in case the internal contact mechanism of the helmet malfunctions or crashes.

To allow rapid egress during an accident or emergency, you can use an intermediary contact cord between the helmet cord and the air-frame inter-communication devices receptacle. Like an expensive mobile unit, handle your flight helmet well; practice gentle care while handling.

For transporting your aircraft, make sure you have a padded flight aircraft bag. If you are flying on a commercial airline, bring your helmet bag with you in the cabin as carry-on baggage, as carrying your flight helmet bag with checked luggage could expose the helmet to possible injury. Be sure to follow the instructions of the flight helmet maker about the helmet testing times, repair practices, methods of cleaning and storage.
